Winter's Arrival

Get Ready

Winter's A Comin'

In this year’s slow wave of winter’s 2023 arrival, NorCal’s mountain biking season has been slightly extended as snow levels have found themselves well above their average elevation. Skis and snowboards, therefore, continue to occupy basements and garages while bikes find themselves still on the trails. Nonetheless, Winter’s a Comin. The onset of “frost heaving” on the trails continue to remind the locals here that times on Bear Springs and Muirs Ascension are drawing to a close. As a result, those that are looking to continue their two-wheeled adventures through the year will probably plan to explore the trails in areas such as Redding Ca, yielding a 2,950’ elevation drop and only an hour drive. On the other hand, those that lead a double-adventure life are looking forward to storing the bikes away and pulling out the ski’s, boards, and wax.

Frost Heaving seems to be a common factor on the trails these days

Work To Be Done

For the staff at SGA, however, the work continues as plans for the spring continue in the back office. For us, “off-season” just translates to “prep-season”. If the word isn't out already, preparations for an SGA headquarters are being established on the block behind downtown. Additionally, new ideas for different avenues of the company are being brainstormed for the spring.

Be sure to watch out for updates this winter as we continue growing our business into Northern California’s premier shuttle service!

Fall 2023 Gravity Groms

Cubbies

Pre K - K

The fall season at Shastice park this year met youngsters ready to get out on a pair of wheels, some for the first time. Skills such as Dragon(neutral position), Tiger(ready position), and Braking were instructed by the use of cone drills and games to kids in Pre K - K. Towards the middle of the month, kids took to the dirt and applied their skills at a new level, riding the trails in and around Shastice Park. Cubbies was coached by Georgie Bass and Rynn Cobb.

Bruins

Age 6-9

The McBride trailhead found itself to be the beginning of rad times on the trails for the Bruins group. Kids aged 6-9 took to the trails, applying skills such as braking, neutral and ready position. Trails such as Muirs Ascension and Strawberry Valley offered ample opportunities for kids to laugh, learn, and improve their skills. Fun times, good trails, and snack times were had. Bruins was coached by Payton Birch and Paige Cibart.

Black Bears/Grizzlies, Gravity Team

Grades 5-8

Black Bears and Grizzlies joined forces this fall to take to the Ten Gallon trails. Bear springs and Steam Donkey allowed ample opportunities for grades 5th - 8th to practice their on-the-bike skills. Technical riding, line choice, and cornering were just some of the skills that were taught and instructed. The fall season saw awesome improvement  and skill progression from both groups. Black Bears/Grizzlies was coached by Payton Birch and Justin Fisher.

Line choice, technical riding, and cornering were also emphasized for Gravity Team this fall. Skilled riders took to the trails this season to work on their skills on all levels. Additionally, coaches timed them on sections of Steam Donkey, as race strategies and techniques were emphasized and improved. The fall season saw significant improvement in kids looking to level up their riding abilities and racing strategies. Gravity Team was coached by Fred Broadbent.

2023 Season Wrap Up

Thank you for being a part of our best season yet!

2023 brought trails and clear blue skies, delivering epic riding days for all who ventured to the Mount Shasta region

In its efforts to provide a unique riding experience defined by high mountain lakes and epic descents, Shasta Gravity shuttled riders up to the Sisson Callahan Trail. Regarded as one of the best new shuttles in California, the SCT provided plenty of fun times on the bike, riding some of the most technical and varied terrain in the region.

Apart from the SCT, the 10 Gallon Shuttle provided riders with some of the most diverse riding terrain on the flanks of Mount Shasta. From lengthy, technical rock gardens to big, flowy jump lines, both the Bear Springs and Muirs Ascension trail systems satisfied any rider looking for a good time on two wheels. The completion of Strawberry Valley allowed great mileage for families while Lemurian Delirium satisfied those looking for big berms and tabletops.

Both the SCT and 10 Gallon trails systems stood alone this season as some of the most unique Mountain Biking in Siskiyou. Catering to all levels of riders, these trails continue to take mountain biking in Mount Shasta to new heights, providing people with epic riding in California's north.

Stay tuned for more trail and shuttle updates spring of 2024!

SGA Youth Programs: Building a Thriving Community for All

In the Spring, Summer and Fall of 2023, Shasta Gravity Adventures serviced over 500 youth in it's goal to get kids on bikes. From summer camps, to servicing youth in schools, to Gravity Groms, kids of all ages improved and hit the trails in the Mount Shasta region. Skills were taught, games were played, granola bars were consumed, and racers competed. Thanks to supporters like you, Gravity Groms was made possible for kids and families who may have been unable to participate due to financial concerns. We have coordinated with Youth MTB Collective to offer scholarships and loaner bikes so that the MTB experience is accessible to all.
